MY BALIK KAMPUNG TRIP

It's another balik kampung trip for me and my wife. Supposely, it's a trip to help my parents in-law in shifting to new house but due to some unforeseen reasons, the initial plan was delayed to a much later date. I called it blessing in disguise, at least I don't have to work my ass out......hehe!

The new house that my in-laws are about to move-in

As for me, a trip back to Ipoh is as good as going for a feast. How could anyone resist not to go 'makan'-ing around Ipoh town. I started off with a morning breakfast at Foh San Restaurant for their most famous 'dim sum'. I was told that they have moved to a new building. As I reached, I was amazed on how gigantic the restaurant is right now. This is by far the largest 'dim sum' restaurant I have seen and patronized. Inside, the environment was cosy with interiors and decorations perfectly arranged and fitted. Though it was a weekday but looking for a vacant table was no easy task. We ordered assorted varieties of 'dim sum's, some HK 'chee cheong fun's, a pot of porridge and a plate of 'ma thai' kuih as dessert. Nice!!!

Being in Ipoh, the signature dish, Ipoh 'ngar choi kai' at the well-known Lou Wong Restaurant is surely not to be missed. Though I don't normally fancy chicken rice, but this is an exceptional. I just love the tenderness of the chicken soaked in soya sauce served with silky smooth 'hor fun'. Love it!!!

The next day, we were in 'Tai Su Thau' in the afternoon for a must-have Ipoh 'yong tau foo'. The place was filled with hungry patrons waiting to get their shares of 'yong tau foo's. Freshly fried 'yong tau foo's to be dipped in their home-made chilli sauce served with 'lou shu fun' and a glass of icy cold red bean sherbet were in-deed a superb combination.

At night, we headed to a weekly pasar malam in Bercham. Fuhh!!!.....plenty choices of food, lots of people and not to mentioned, pretty gals too.......hehe. Food wise, it tasted averagely but value for money and worth to be given a try.

Chinese hamburger with choice fillings of ham, hot dog or chicken floss - RM 1.50/piece

Shark fins soup - RM 3.50/bowl

Assorted cakes - RM 5 for 3 pieces

Persimmons - 16 for RM 10

From Ipoh, we drove for about an hour towards south to Sg Klah Hot Springs Park, located in Sungkai, is a place where you can dip yourself in hot therapeutic springs pool. If you don't like it hot, you may choose to swim around in cool mountain springs pool with water slides to add some thrill in it. For those who don't like to get wet, you may try out their traditional ayurvedic massage. Remember to buy some eggs from stalls there or probably sneak-in some.....hehe (as outside food or drinks are not allowed) to be boiled in the piping hot springs water in a designated boiling spot.

I wish I have a bigger space in my stomach because there are just too many good food that I have yet to savour here in Ipoh. Meanwhile, the Sg Klah Hot Springs Park can be an excellent get-together place for families who are looking for a peaceful and relaxing outing. The only set back for this balik kampung trip is.......my wife and I might have gain another few more pounds...... Damn!!!..... LOL
