PET WORLD 2011

Pet World 2011 took place on 3th - 5th June 2011 at Mid Valley Exhibition Centre (MiVEC), the same venue as previous years. Being an animal lover and pet owner myself, this yearly event is listed as a "must attend" event for me. From lovely dogs to adorable cats, cute rabbits to petite hamsters, scaly snakes to mutated lizards, almost all kinds of animal that can be made as legal pets can be found here at Pet World. Beside the display of pets and pets related products, this event is certainly a great meet up point for pet owners to showcase their beloved pets, which in this case mostly dogs. These dogs were well groomed and nicely dressed by their 'parents' and they seemed to be ever ready to impress visitors here, probably dogs of opposite sex too.....lol. There were many attractive bargains at the event here. I bought a pack of treat and HeartGuard for Almond Poodle and managed to pick up some free dog and rabbit food samples. :)

A game of archery at Star Archery for 50% less?....Well, that's the one of the attractive deal that I've gotten from Dealmates website that offers great online deals on food, entertainment, beauty and etc. It's a great experience for first-timer like me as I've never try my hand at archery before. After putting on protective wears such as bracer and finger tab, I was given some guides by the staff on the proper way to hold, aim and shoot. Inspired by movie characters like Robin Hood & Legolas (Lord of the Rings), it certainly looks cool to hold up a bow and starts shooting, though in my case the target is not villains or monsters.....lol. Yesss!!! Bull's eye!!!!......haha

The silence is broken

We asked a dog to pull aside the shroud of secrecy and be interviewed. He asked that his name not be used, but for the good of all dogs he agreed to share these 10 insights with humans.

DOG ABUSE - MY SAY

It's Monday, 24th of Jan 2011. I am still saddened by the video on the dog abuse that was being shared in Facebook lately. (If you still don't know which one I'm referring to, please refer to my earlier post in this blog)

I held back my tears while watching a helpless toy poodle being continuously battered by it's heartless owner for a goddamn 15 minutes. Damn!! I felt like smashing this bastard's head with a baseball bat and watch him bleed to death!!

Such inhumane act is certainly intolerable and the culprit (or perhaps culprits, including the woman who recorded the video and she did not even tried to stop the beating) should be punished by the law. I wonder what's on his f*cking mind? The poor dog has done nothing to deserve such a cruelty. I hope and pray that the poodle can be saved as soon as possible!

Under Section 44 of the Animal Act 1953 (2006 Amendment) which says that anyone guilty of an offence of cruelty to animals shall be liable to a fine of RM200 or imprisonment for a term of six months or both. In my opinion, the sentence is too light and it needs to be urgently amended as it has clearly fails to hinder people from mistreating animal.

As a dog lover and a toy poodle owner myself, I love my dog so much that I considered him part of my family. He has brought so much cheers into our lives and I can't imagine life without him. Dog is indeed man's best friend and I have no doubt about it.

DOG ABUSE - KL

A case of horrific dog abuse has just surfaced on Facebook. (21/1/2011)

It is not clear at this time where the abuse occurred although the person who uploaded the video says she found it in a "pendrive" in Kuala Lumpur.

The SPCA is appealing for information on the man in the video (see pictures). Please call SPCA Selangor at 03-42565312, 42535179.

Update 25/1/11 : The poodle abuser has been identified. The girl's name is Doreen and the guy's name Alan from OUG Green Park, Kepong. Sadly, the poodle named Sushi is said to have died about 3 yrs ago.

Update 26/1/11 : Below are snapshots from the video (left & center photos) being compared with a photo (on the right) posted by the suspected abusers (Alan & Doreen) in their Facebook account. Do you think they are the ones we are looking for?

Update 27/1/11 : A suspect by the name of Alan from Melaka has denied that he was the one on the video. It was clearly a mistaken identity as he doesn't has any tattoos on his arms as compared with the abuser on the video. He is not the Alan that we are all looking for. Fifteen police reports have been lodged yesterday by canine lovers against the two people who are allegedly implicated in the dog abuse video.

Update 30/1/11 : As in now, there's still no updates or arrest made by the police. The abusers are still out there.

The Rat

Rats are charming, elegant and clever. They can be a bit

Millennium Secrets Buddha Relics & Tibetan Antiques Exhibition 2010 is going on at the Bukit Jalil Indoor Putra Stadium from Dec 23 to Jan 1. More than 1,000 ancient Buddhist and Tibetan religious and cultural artifacts are on display here. Admission is free and visiting hours are 10am to 10pm daily.

THINKING ABOUT SUICIDE?

I don't know who you are or where you are from. I only know that for the moment, you're reading it and that is good. I can assume that you are here because you are troubled and considering ending your life.

I know you are feeling hopeless and in deep pain right now but I'm here to tell you that SUICIDE IS NOT THE ANSWER!

Suicide is a great sin and it is forbidden in your religion. Do you have any idea what's the consequences of suicide? Is hell awaits you?

You'll put your friends and family through grief! Dying is usually sad, but suicide really spreads a lot of misery. You’re responsible for leaving them in this mess.

People often turn to suicide because they are seeking relief from pain. Remember that relief is a feeling. You have to be alive to feel it.

GIVE YOURSELF TIME TO THINK IT OVER

Well, it's good that you're still reading. I hope it means that you're still a bit unsure about dying. It means that even while you want to die, at the same time some part of you still wants to live.

Say to yourself "I will wait 24 hours or a week before I do anything". DO NOT RUSH into any decision right at this minute. You'll probably discover that there are other options or way out to your problems.

YOU CAN START OVER BUT YOU CAN'T TURN BACK TIME

Many suicide survivors out there regretted their action and were grateful that they are still alive. There might be an important purpose to your life that you don't know yet. There's a huge world out there which you haven't seen it all. It's time to take charge of your life now!

I know you might feel frustrated that no one around you that seems to understand how you feel right now. Some of them may even say or do things that increase your pain instead of helping you. Don't blame them, they just don't know how to react to your suicidal feeling.

I want you to know that YOU'RE NOT ALONE!

There are people out there who can be with you in this horrible time, people who will listen and understands you, try to talk you out of how badly you feel.

T-Bowl Restaurant is designed base on the bathroom concept; where the toilet bowl used as seat, basin as dining table, mini toilet bowls as food bowl. It has never come across my mind that one day I would eat a meal sitting on a toilet bowl, let alone eating poo-alike dessert and main course directly from a 'toilet bowl'!.....lol

I USED TO HATE EXERCISE BUT NOT ANYMORE

Everyone knows the importance of exercising and what good it can do for you. From preventing chronic health conditions to promoting weight loss and better sleep, the benefits of exercising are just endless. Yet some of you are still constantly giving excuses not to do so. I used to hate exercise. Too tired, too boring, too busy, there are just millions of excuses to avoid exercise. But lately, things has changed and I started to enjoy every single minute of it now!

Why such a drastic change? Imagine this : Stand in front of the mirror and the thing that catches attention the most is the big fat belly hanging out of your body as you were 5 months into pregnancy! Fuuhh!! Scary rite? It is indeed a great reminder for me to start working out urgently and get serious about it.

I've been doing regular exercise for the past 2 months, each session around 30 minutes, 4-5 days a week. My aim is to lose my bulging belly for a physically fitter and healthier me. Not only I realized that I've lost a couple of pounds lately, my muscles and belly seemed to be firmer too (although it may not be so visibly obvious). Of course I'm not contented with the current result however I'm quite happy about it considering my first time seriously involved in exercise. I just hope that one day I'm able to successfully achieve 6 pack abs, then I'll be really really happy.....hehe

You should find a reason to motivate yourself into exercising. These reasons can be personal to you, for example like losing weight, feeling younger or having more energy. Once these reasons are found, start working towards your goal and those positive outcomes that you'll see will help in motivating you to get going. Coupled with the right type of music, exercising can be fun and contrary to popular belief, it's not difficult to do at all. With a little perseverance and discipline in you, in just no time exercise will become part of your daily routine.

Remember, it's never too late to exercise. A little exercise is better than none. Stop giving anymore excuses and let's start sweating our asses out! :)

TRUE LOVE

Does true love really exist?

Yes! The fact is true love does exist even in our present life. When your love is true you would not even realize how and when you fell in it. It just happens to you. You would never even know or realize how you developed such strong feelings towards the person you love and such feelings would be heart felt.

You would miss that person you love every moment. You would think of her so much that at one point you probably think that you might go crazy. You would always want to be around her as much as possible. You would have butterflies in your stomach each time you see her, a feeling which you used to get when you fell in love for the first time.

True love is not about the hugs and kisses or the amount of 'I love you' or 'I miss you' being said to each other but it's about the unconditional love and sacrifices that you self-lessly put in in the relationship. True love never ends, even when the relationship ends, the feeling never does. That love will still remain in your heart.

People say true love happens only once but I doubted that. I think if you remain open to finding it again, you will be able to. The biggest thing to remember is that the next love will be different and trying to compare him or her with your past love will only destroy any chance you have at finding happiness. So don't limit yourself, have an open heart and mind. If you're able to appreciate the new person you met for what or whom he or she is, then it's possible for you in finding true love again. THE ONE EYED MOTHER

Son's Statement:

" My mom only had one eye. I hated her.... she was such an embarrassment. She cooked for students & teachers to support the family. There was this one day during elementary school where my mom came to say hello to me.

I was so embarrassed. How could she do this to me?
I ignored her, threw her a hateful look and ran out.

The next day at school one of my classmates said, "EEEE, your mom only has one eye!"
I wanted to bury myself. I also wanted my mom to just disappear.

So I confronted her that day and said, " If you're only gonna make me a laughing stock, why don't you just die?!!!"
My mom did not respond.....

I didn't even stop to think for a second about what I had said, because I was full of anger. I was oblivious to her feelings. I wanted out of that house, and have nothing to do with her.

So I studied real hard, got a chance to go to Singapore to study.

Then, I got married.
I bought a house of my own.
I had kids of my own.
I was happy with my life, my kids and the comforts

Then one day, my mother came to visit me. She hadn't seen me in years and she didn't even meet her grandchildren. When she stood by the door, my children laughed at her, and I yelled at her for coming over uninvited.

I screamed at her, "How dare you come to my house and scare my children! GET OUT OF HERE! NOW!!!"

And to this, my mother quietly answered, "Oh, I'm so sorry. I may have gotten the wrong address," and she disappeared out of sight.

One day, a letter regarding a school reunion came to my house in Singapore. So I lied to my wife that I was going on a business trip.

After the reunion, I went to the old shack just out of curiosity. My neighbors said that she died.
I did not shed a single tear. They handed me a letter that she had wanted me to have. "

Mom's Letter:

"My dearest son,

I think of you all the time. I'm sorry that I came to Singapore and scared your children. I was so glad when I heard you were coming for the reunion. But I may not be able to even get out of bed to see you. I'm sorry that I was a constant embarrassment to you when you were growing up. You see........when you were very little, you got into an accident, and lost your eye. As a mother, I couldn't stand watching you having to grow up with one eye.

So I gave you mine.

I was so proud of my son who was seeing a whole new world for me, in my place, with that eye. With my love to you,

It's all started from a phone call from my cousin informing me that she has some free tickets to OuYang FeiFei's concert in Arena of Stars, Genting Highlands (don't ask me about the singer coz I myself have never heard of her but I was told by my mum that she is from Taiwan but made herself famous while singing in Japan). So, we (my mum, cousin sis, her daughter and I) head on to Genting Highlands on Saturday afternoon for the show.

On the way up, we decided to spend some time in Chin Swee Temple coz my cousin sis and her daughter have never been there before.

Since the concert is more dedicated for senior people, my niece and I went for a game of bowling instead while waiting for it to over. We played 2 games each and the result rather surprised me a little. It was a DRAW! (I guess I've underestimated my niece as she turns out to be quite good in bowling after all.....hehe).

DOGATHON 2010

DOGATHON 2010 was held on 8th Aug at Bukit Ekspo, UPM Serdang with the theme 'Ancient Egypt'. Being dubbed as the largest dog gathering in Malaysia, this was the first time for me in attending it. At first I was quite skeptical on whether to bring Almond along to this event as he is obviously not the type who likes to socialize. However the decision to bring him along to Dogathon proved to be a right one as he rather surprised us with his well-behaved attitude there. Looks like he is quite ready to appear in public now.....hehe

Pet World Malaysia 2010 took place in Mid Valley Exhibition Centre from 25th - 27th June 2010. The exhibition displayed a very comprehensive range of pet foods, pet medication, pet accessories and equipments. There were variety of pets being displayed at the exhibition halls ie. dogs and cats, pure breed rabbits, exotic birds and fishes and reptiles such as snake, gecko and tarantulas. Some visitors were seen bringing their beloved pets along too. The exhibition was aimed at promoting public awareness on the importance and understanding of proper maintenance and health care for pets as well as to help promote anti-animal cruelty. It is also an excellent meet up point for pet lovers too.

These are free product samples collected from Pet World Malaysia for Almond. They consist of various brands of dog kibble, can food and dog chew. Meanwhile, as something to reward him, I bought a few packets of treats and a new toy. Hehe.....Daddy sayang Almond :)

2D/1N @ RUBY'S RESORT CHERATING

The Journey
Ruby's Resort is probably the only pets friendly beach resort in Malaysia. Located at Kg. Chendor, Cherating (next to Club Med Cherating) it took us 3 hrs drive to reach there. As the road leading to the resort is partially tarred, do expect couple of minutes of bumpy ride. You will be guided by the resort's signboards along the way.

The Resort
Ruby's Resort comprises of simple wooden chalets, a cafeteria, a tree house, mini petting zoo and of course a beautiful sandy beach. This is a great place for those fussy-free travellers who want to spend nothing but great time with their furry friends. After all, this is the main reason why my wife and I choose this place. The resort is kept clean and well maintained, thanks to the dedicated staffs there and responsible pet owners. Guests who brought their pets along are required to bring their own bed sheet, pillow case, blanket and towel as these items are not provided by the resort management. Well, since it's a house rule what choice do we have.

Here & There
It was a full house for the resort on that day and dogs are just about everywhere. The resort owner Ruby herself has a few dogs and cats roaming freely within the compound. Nevertheless, dog owners are advised to leash their dogs at all time in the resort. For a curious and rowdy dog like Almond who seems to bark at everything, putting a leash on him is definitely a must. Activity wise, one can head on to the beach, go up the tree house or just hang around doing nothing while enjoying sea breeze and the panoramic view. Board games are available at the cafeteria while for those who fancy big boy's games, you may opt for ATV ride or paintball game made available at the resort itself for a certain fees.

The Beach
As for us, most of our time were spent at the beach. We decided to unleash Almond here and it's so happy to see Almond finally able to move and play freely. Almond had his first experience of swimming and by judging from his swim, I guess dogs are really born to be natural swimmers. We had a great time at the beach but I was slightly disappointed as the sun set view wasn't impressive at all.

The Turtles
We considered ourself lucky to be in Cherating during turtle's egg-laying season which is from May till August every year. Though we were unable to witness the egg-laying process, but we had the opportunity to release newly hatched baby turtles to the sea. It was an unforgettable experience for us to hold and feel those cute little baby turtles for the first time.

The Food
As my wife would like to have a taste of shark meat which is a famous delicacy here, we drove for about 30 mins to Kuantan town for our dinner. Located hidden in the industrial area of Padang Lalang, Restoran Muhibbah is the best place to enjoy this delicacy. We ordered stir fried shark meat, stir fried crabs with salted egg yolk, butter prawns and a plate of vege. All the dishes were in generous serving size and the bill came out to only RM76. Great price and great food!

Thinking of spending some time at the beach in Gold Coast, Australia but can't afford to fly there? Perhaps you may consider a cheaper alternative, a place which offers sun, sea and sand too (minus hot bikini babes) that is known as Gold Coast as well by the locals. Yeah, the place is no other than Sepang Gold Coast......lol

Located at Bagan Lalang beach in Sepang, Selangor it took me almost an hour drive from my house in Kota Kemuning, Shah Alam. Though the place is still under on-going constructions, this quiet and secluded place is just ideal for my furkid Almond to get a first hand experience of running around in beach without getting those unpleasant looks by people who don't like dog's presence. I guess Almond could have been more enjoyed if the sun is not scorching hot that day. Anyway, it was a great outing for us.

Once fully developed, Sepang Gold Coast will be an international tourism destination with world class resorts, a waterside township, a marina, an aquarium, open zoo, theme park, eco-tourism areas and an institute of Oceanography. In simple words, it's going to be a happening place. I really wish to see all the mentioned plans materialized. It better be or else it will be another white elephant project of Malaysia. Malaysia Boleh!

FOOD FOR THOUGHT

A long time ago, there was an Emperor who told his horseman that if he could ride on his horse and cover as much land area as he likes, then the Emperor would give him the area of land he has covered.

Sure enough, the horseman quickly jumped onto his horse and rode as fast as possible to cover as much land area as he could. He kept on riding and riding, whipping the horse to go as fast as possible. When he was hungry or tired, he did not stop because he wanted to cover as much area as possible.

Came to a point when he had covered a substantial area and he was exhausted and was dying. Then he asked himself, "Why did I push myself so hard to cover so much land area? Now I am dying and I only need a very small area to bury myself."

The above story is similar with the journey of our Life. We push very hard everyday to make more money, to gain power and recognition. We neglect our health , time with our family and to appreciate the surrounding beauty and the hobbies we love..

One day when we look back, we will realize that we don't really need that much , but then we cannot turn back time for what we have missed.

Life is not about making money, acquiring power or recognition . Life is definitely not about work! Work is only necessary to keep us living so as to enjoy the beauty and pleasures of life. Life is a balance of Work , Family and Personal time.. You have to decide how you want to balance your Life.

Define your priorities, realize what you are able to compromise but always let some of your decisions be based on your instincts. Happiness is the meaning and the purpose of Life , the whole aim of human existence.

So, take it easy, do what you want to do and appreciate nature. Life is fragile , Life is short. Do not take Life for granted. Live a balanced lifestyle and enjoy Life!

SEEN HOCK YEEN TEMPLE CNY '10

Seen Hock Yeen Temple is a relatively new temple located hidden off the Chemor-Sg Siput main road. Built on 1.2ha of former tin mining land about 16km north of Ipoh, the temple has Taoism, Buddhism and Confucian characteristics and is taken care of by volunteers from Chemor and the surrounding villages.

I only knew the existence of Seen Hock Yeen temple after being told by my father-in-law about a newly constructed temple in a secluded spot in Chemor. Not knowing what to expect, we decided to pay a visit on the 3rd day of CNY. I was surprised to see such a magnificent temple with a pagoda, carp fishes in lotus ponds, golden statues of the 12 Chinese zodiac animals and calligraphic couplets. I just love the colours of the temple and its surrounding, it was somewhat amazing! Future plans for the temple are underway as part of the temple is still under construction.

FGS Dong Zen, Jenjarum has done it again! Magnificently crafted statues, thousands of brightly lit lanterns and fluorescent lights and on-going CNY themed activities, FGS Dong Zen has proved that it is indeed a place not to be missed during CNY.

FGS Dong Zen has never failed to enlighten its visitors with a fresh new look every year, themed according to the zodiac animal signs of the Chinese Lunar calendar. Other than the over-crowding that led to difficulty in getting a car park, I was very pleased with the over-all setting and atmosphere of the place and will definitely make the visit to FGS Dong Zen a yearly itinerary during each CNY.

Be mesmerized by the dazzling lights in i-City this Chinese New Year. The i-City, a retail and commercial hub with advanced information-communication infrastructure in Section 8, Shah Alam has installed millions of LED lights to brighten up the night. Though this place can be considered new for most people but that doesn't stop visitors from thronging into it. i-City is definitely a great location for those in search of a fresh new place to be this CNY. The entrance is free and for a magnificent scenery like this, a camera is definitely a must.

Chinese New Year is a holiday that celebrates the beginning of a new year according to the lunar calendar. It is considered to be the most important holiday for Chinese families.

It's counting days to Chinese New Year. My wife and I have decorated our home with lanterns, pussy willows, plum blossoms and other auspicious ornaments on welcoming this new year. Decorations are always in red and gold to symbolize prosperity and good fortune. Some of the decor items are newly bought from shops in Petaling Street while others were from previous years collection being re-use again this year.

This new year will be the year of The Tiger. Here, I wish everyone a ROARING and PAWS-PEROUS YEAR ahead, GONG XI FA CAI
